The Toy Association announced Tuesday it is moving the next Toy Fair New York to September 2023. The association and the Javits Center are in negotiations around the show's return, with exact dates to be determined. The event used to take place in February but was canceled in both 2021 and 2022 because of the pandemic.

"Fall is a powerful pre-holiday opportunity for toy companies to get in front of the news media," CEO Steve Pasierb told industry publication The Toy Book. "Fall in New York City is also prime for licensors that hold meetings in the city during the same timeframe. This is an opportunity to do business in different ways at the same time."

With Toy Fair New York taking the fall slot, the association also announced Tuesday that it has retired Toy Fair Dallas. A one-time fall event, which has yet to be named, will happen in Dallas from Sept. 20-22, 2022, The Toy Book reported.

The changes follow a more-than-yearlong research project conducted by The Toy Association and its strategic partner mdg as part of the Toy Fair Reimagination Project, according to the association's website.

The last Toy Fair New York in February 2020 drew about 24,000 participants.
