Nearly 49 million people will travel 50 miles or more by car, truck or SUV for Thanksgiving, the most people to hit the road during the holiday since 2007, according to AAA.
AAA's forecast—which is based on market trends—calls for a nearly 2 percent increase in traffic from Thanksgiving 2015. Low gas prices and a healthy economy are encouraging more people to drive this holiday season.
"Rising wages, increased consumer spending, and overall strength in consumer confidence appear to be the driving factors contributing to this year's rise in holiday travel volume," said Ragina Cooper Averella, public and government affairs manager for AAA Mid-Atlantic.
An increase in traffic also means an increase in traffic incidents. AAA expects to rescue more than 370,000 motorists nationwide this Thanksgiving, with the primary reasons being dead batteries, flat tires and lockouts.
The organization recommends motorists check the condition of their battery and tires and pack emergency kits in their vehicles before heading out. http://bit.ly/2f4H0iy
