America's Health Insurance Plans announced Tuesday that seven health care coverage and solutions providers have joined its ranks—key additions for a group that lost several prominent members in recent years.
The seven new members are Bright Health, CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield, Central States Health and Life Company of Omaha, Fidelity, First Medical Health Plan, Inland Health Plan and National Guardian Life.
"These new members represent the breadth, depth and variety of health care choices that Americans need to protect their health and financial security," AHIP CEO Matt Eyles said. "We look forward to working with them to make coverage and care more affordable and accessible for everyone we serve."
AHIP used to represent some of the largest health insurers in the nation, but UnitedHealth pulled out of the group in 2015, saying at the time the association no longer best represented the company's interests. The exit was followed by the departures of Aetna in 2016 and Humana in 2017.
AHIP underwent a leadership change last year with the departure of former CEO Marilyn Tavenner. The group has also sought out new members, particularly among state and regional health insurance providers, adding four companies to its roster last July. http://bit.ly/2AYrorH
