The sign proclaiming the Jim Johnston Memorial Bridge was unveiled Tuesday at OOIDA's headquarters in Grain Valley, Mo. The bridge is located east of Kansas City on Interstate 70 at Grain Valley exit 24.
Johnston led OOIDA from 1975 until his death in 2018. A former truck driver and owner-operator, he is credited by the group with helping it become the largest national organization of professional truckers in the country.
"He was an outspoken champion for the rights of all professional truck drivers," current OOIDA President Todd Spencer said in a statement. "This is a fitting honor for him and the association."
