A Super Bowl ad featuring a group of bumbling knights hauling around a barrel of corn syrup failed to amuse the National Corn Growers Association, which said in a tweet it was willing to discuss "the many benefits of corn."
The Bud Light ad features a giant barrel of corn syrup being mistakenly delivered to a castle where the beer is made. After proclaiming Bud Light isn't made with corn syrup, a party of knights from the castle hauls the barrel to the Miller Lite and Coors Lite castles—both of which, the commercial says, are made with corn syrup.
The suggestion is Bud Light is healthier than the other beers because it doesn't use corn syrup. However, NCGA shot back against the allegation in a tweet shortly after the ad aired.
".@BudLight America's corn farmers are disappointed in you. Our office is right down the road! We would love to discuss with you the many benefits of corn! Thanks @MillerLight and @CoorsLite for supporting our industry."
Both NCGA and Anheuser-Busch—the maker of Bud Light—have offices in St. Louis.
NCGA has long defended corn syrup from the suggestion it is an unhealthy additive to many foods and drinks.
