A new association has formed to represent fiber optic sensing technology, which is used monitor power lines, oil and gas pipelines and other critical infrastructure.
The Fiber Optic Sensing Association will focus on educating industry, government and the public on the benefits of the technology, according to a news release. The new group is an affiliate of the Fiber Broadband Association, a $2.4 million-revenue group based in Leesburg, Va.
Businesses, institutions, and government agencies already deploy (fiber optic) applications to make our roads safer, protect our environment and strengthen our security," said Thomas Cohen, FOSA's executive director. "However, to further these improvements and impact, industry, consumers and government need to better understand the value of and get greater access to information on this advanced technology."
FOSA's initial membership includes AFL, Corning Incorporated, Ditch Witch, Dura-Line Corporation and other fiber optic technology providers. http://bit.ly/2pahxHS
