The We are Golf coalition will be on Capitol Hill this week, emphasizing the economic impact and health benefits of playing the game. National Golf Day is Wednesday, when advocates from several associations and other organizations will visit congressional offices.
Coalition members include the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America, National Golf Course Owners Association and the U.S. Golf Manufacturers Council, an affiliate of the Sports & Fitness Industry Association. Key issues include labor laws and environmental regulations.
At least three groups representing medical specialties will also be in Washington, D.C., this week. Though doctors are famously fond of golf, they will focus on hot-button issues for their members. The American Society of Anesthesiologists wants to ensure that surgical teams at the Veterans Administration always include a physician anesthesiologist. About 500 people are attending the advocacy event.
The nation's opioid addiction crisis is one of the top issues for the American College of Emergency Physicians. Talking points for the American College of Radiology include having Medicare pay for CT Colonography, or "virtual colonoscopies."
Also this week: NATSO—Representing America's Travel Plazas and Truck Stops, holds its traditional pie reception Tuesday as part of its lobby day activities. More than 120 members of the Equipment Leasing and Finance Association will participate in the Capitol Connections program; meetings are planned with House and Senate offices and two executive branch agencies.
