At least two dozen trade and professional groups will be on Capitol Hill this week with agendas ranging from organic farming to financial products and music education.
The Organic Trade Association is holding four days of "Organic Week" activities, starting with the first Organic Confluences Summit today. The summit aims to bring organic stakeholders together to turn evidence-based research into policy.
Other events include a fun run Tuesday morning around the National Mall, with refreshments provided by sponsor Clif Bar; a PAC fundraiser at Nationals Park, a policy conference and congressional reception at the U.S. Botanic Garden. Advocacy Day is Thursday. About 200 people will participate in the week's events.
About 800 people are expected for the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors annual Congressional Conference. Top issue for Hill visits Wednesday: Tax reform and the Department of Labor's new fiduciary rule requiring that financial advisers put their clients' interests first.
Other groups holding big fly-ins include the National Retail Association and the Wine & Spirit Wholesalers of America. More than 90 people will lobby in support of music education during the National Association of Music Merchants fly-in.
