JPMorgan Chase chairman and CEO Jamie Dimon has been named chairman of Business Roundtable, a move that could put the group in a good position to work closely with the incoming Trump administration.
Dimon is a Democrat but also an economic adviser to President-elect Donald Trump. He reportedly was under consideration for Treasury secretary before hedge fund investor Steven Mnuchin was nominated for the position.
The CEO will serve a two-year term starting in January. He succeeds Doug Oberhelman, chairman and CEO of Caterpillar, who is retiring from the company at the end of the year.
"The results of the U.S. election reflected in some part the frustration that so many people have with the lack of economic opportunity and the challenges they face," Dimon said in a statement. "By helping to bridge the divide between political parties and working collaboratively to find solutions, Business Roundtable can play a key role in fostering economic mobility and sustained growth."
Business Roundtable is an association of 192 business CEOs from all sectors of the economy. Dimon joined the group in 2009 and currently is a member of its executive committee. http://bit.ly/2gG6dOF
