SPI: The Plastics Industry Trade Association will change its name to the Plastics Industry Association by year's end, industry news site Plastics News reported Thursday.
SPI was founded in 1937 to represent the U.S. plastics industry. The association spent most of its existence as the Society of the Plastics Industry, shortened to SPI several years ago. One reason for the coming change is to avoid confusion with the Society of Plastics Engineers, or SPE, CEO Bill Carteaux said in an email to members.
The name change also "fits our expanded vision and makes obvious who we are and what we do," Carteaux said.
The association also plans to unveil a new logo and website. http://bit.ly/27Vnol9
