Financial Services Roundtable CEO Tim Pawlenty and U.S. Chamber of Commerce National Political Director Rob Engstrom have added their voices to a growing list of Republicans blasting Donald Trump following the release of an audio recording in which the candidate made crude remarks about women.

In a statement issued Friday, Pawlenty said Trump "is unwilling or unable to demonstrate even the most basic level of discipline, character and judgment necessary to lead our great nation." Pawlenty is the former governor of Wisconsin who sought the Republican nomination for president in 2012.

"(Trump) is unsound, uninformed, unhinged and unfit to be president of the United States, and I am withdrawing my support for him," Pawlenty said.

Engstrom, a former Republican Party official who is coordinating the Chamber's election-year efforts, was equally harsh in his assessment of the GOP candidate.

"There is no GOP nominee for president in 2016. Fundamentally offensive & unqualified," Engstrom said in a tweet. He soon added: "Trump should step down immediately tonight, yielding to Governor Pence as the GOP nominee."

Pawlenty and Engstrom are not alone in their opinions. Sens. John McCain (R-Ariz.), Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Mike Lee (R-Utah) and Deb Fischer (R-Neb.) are among the high-profile Republicans who have either withdrawn their support for Trump or urged him to drop out of the race in recent days.

Trump showed no willingness to end his campaign as of Monday morning. As far as being replaced by Pence, the Indiana governor told CNN Monday he was honored to be Trump's running mate.
