Internet sales tax passes Senate Legislation that would give states the authority to collect sales taxes from online purchases is moving forward much to the delight of several associations. Late last week, the U.S. Senate approved an amendment to the Fiscal Year 2014 budget bill known as the Marketplace Fairness Act. Currently states and local governments are not able to collect sales taxes from online retailers that do not have a physical presence within the state's border. The amendment would change that.
