Air traffic control towers to remain open The Federal Aviation Administration announced Friday it will not close 149 contract air traffic control towers, reversing a decision that had led to a lawsuit by the American Association of Airport Executives. The agency had planned to close the towers by June 15 to comply with budget sequestration. But last month Congress passed legislation giving FAA more flexibility in how it makes the cuts, so now it says the towers will remain open at least through Sept. 30, according to the Associated Press.
