Prosthetic association sues feds over Medicare reimbursements The American Orthotic and Prosthetic Association sued the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Wednesday for changing the standards for which Medicare beneficiaries are reimbursed for prosthetic limbs. According to the association, the suit had its start in a 2011 HHS report alleging fraud in the orthotic and prosthetic field. The "flawed, and in some respects amateurish," report led to a revision in reimbursement requirements for prosthetic limbs, which AOPA said was done with no input from stakeholders.
