CEO DATELINE - Travel industry, airports among groups holding fly-ins this week

Stakeholders in the nation's aviation system will be in Washington, D.C., as Congress grapples with legislation to reauthorize the Federal Aviation Administration. About twodozen other groups will also be on Capitol Hill advocating on pharmacy, public transit, the workplace and more.
Representatives from two airport groups—Airports Council International-North American and the American Association of Airport Executives—will be on Capitol Hill Tuesday and Wednesday. On Wednesday, the Senate Commerce and Transportation Committee is scheduled to consider its FAA bill. Airport advocates are not happy that the proposed legislation does not include an increase in the Passenger Facility Charge user fee, which goes to local airports.
The U.S. Travel Association—which holds Destination Capitol Hill this week—sides with the airports on higher airport fees. (Airlines are opposed.) Partners and sponsors of the fly-in include Destination Marketing Association International and the National Tour Association. Congressional office visits are Thursday.
Other groups bringing hundreds of people to Washington this week include the Society for Human Resource Development, American Bankers Association, National Association of Chain Drug Stores, American Society of Civil Engineers and the American Public Transportation Association. APTA is holding a briefing on urban mobility Tuesday with executives from ridesharing services Uber and Lyft.
