The Chamber is one of many business groups seeking to address racial disparities in the U.S. following the recent Black Lives Matter protests across the nation. The summit will open with remarks by CEO Tom Donohue before moving to a panel discussion moderated by CBS This Morning host Gayle King.
The virtual summit is part of an Equality of Opportunity initiative launched June 3 by the Chamber to address business and societal obstacles holding back many groups in the U.S.
"This initiative will create a much-needed forum for the business community to understand the barriers preventing equality of opportunity and then be a catalyst for meaningful, measurable impact through public policy and private sector solutions," Chamber President Suzanne Clark said in a statement.
Clark, AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson and Tim Ryan, founder of CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion, will give keynote remarks on employment and entrepreneurship. Other participants include:
- Stephen Benjamin, mayor of Columbia, S.C., and former president, United States Conference of Mayors
- Zawadi Bryant, CEO, NightLight Pediatric Urgent Care
- Wayne A. I. Frederick, president, Howard University
- Eddie Harrell, Jr., Urban One
- Nela Richardson, principal, investment strategies, Edward Jones
- Margaret Spellings, CEO of Texas 2036 and former U.S. Secretary of Education
- Joel Wittenberg, vice president and chief investment officer, W.K. Kellogg Foundation
- Mark Wilson, CEO, Chime Solutions
In addition, nearly 500 organizations across 47 states will participate in the event. Registration details can be found here.
