Commerce Department sets solar tariffs

A coalition of seven U.S. solar equipment makers scored a victory March 20 when the Commerce Department decided to impose tariffs on Chinese solar panels. The group, calling itself the Coalition for American Solar Manufacturing, accused China of dumping solar panels and cells in the U.S. and illegally subsidizing its industry. The coalition is led by SolarWorld Industries America, a subsidiary of German company SolarWorld. CASM acted independently of the main U.S. solar trade organization, the Solar Energy Industries Association, because the latter group took no position in the case.
