D.C. economy resilient despite economic downturn

The capital area has shed its image as a government town and a diverse regional economy is keeping the area buoyant While the rest of the country teeters on the edge of a recession, a regional report released June 6 says that the Washington, D.C. region is less prone to wild economic swings, largely due to a stable job base in the federal government and a diverse economy that has generated job growth in several sectors.
