Firearms association applauds defeat of background check bill The National Shooting Sports Foundation is thanking U.S. senators who opposed legislation that would have expanded background checks for gun purchases, saying the measure would have harmed both the industry and Americans' Second Amendment rights. In a statement issued by NSSF, the organization said all people want to make communities safer, but the legislation's defeat Wednesday "further shows that reasonable minds can disagree on how to best achieve this goal."
