"No sacred cows" in tax reform, says retail group The Retail Industry Leaders Association wants Congress to put "all corporate tax preferences" on the table as it takes up the tricky issue of tax reform. In a letter delivered to the House Ways and Means Committee Monday, Bill Hughes, RILA's senior vice president of government affairs, said his organization supports "comprehensive, base-broadening, rate-reducing, revenue-neutral tax reform."

Electronics group takes on patent trolls The Consumer Electronics Association is urging federal regulators to rein in "patent trolls" through new legislation and other means, the legal news service Law360 recently reported.

The Obama administration will not move forward with a proposed reduction in Medicare Advantage rates after a campaign by America's Health Insurance Plans resulted in 160 members of Congress coming out in opposition to the cuts. According to the Associated Press, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services announced Tuesday that rates would instead increase by 3.3 percent in 2013, a reversal from an earlier position.
