New GPS association on the way The global positioning system industry is forming a new association to lobby lawmakers and educate the public about the technology, according to the industry publication InsideGNSS. The GPS Innovation Alliance, to be based in Washington, D.C., and will be announced jointly by the Coalition to Save Our GPS and the GPS Industry Council within the next several days. A launch party is reportedly scheduled for Feb. 13.

Publishing groups react to end of Saturday mail delivery The U.S. Postal Service announced Wednesday that it would end Saturday mail delivery as a cost-cutting measure, which came as unwelcome news to associations whose members rely on the service. In a statement, MPA-The Association of Magazine Media said consumer magazines could be among the most affected by the decision.

Associations react skeptically to Obama's call to delay sequestration President Barack Obama proposed Tuesday that Congress push back the March 1 deadline for a series of steep federal budget cuts under sequestration, but many business groups said what was needed isn't short-term fix, but a long-term solution. Among them was TechAmerica, whose senior vice president of public sector Trey Hodgkins said it was time to "get down to serious business to avert sequesration and pass a budget."
