Maryland association sues company over alleged patent trolling The Rockville, Md.-based Restoration Industry Association is taking the pest control services company ThermaPure to court to stop the business from suing its members. The purpose of the lawsuit is to invalidate six of seven patents held by ThermaPure, according to RIA. The suit was filed Federal Court of the Western District of Washington state.

Incoming association CEO steps down from Congress Rep. Jo Ann Emerson (R-Mo.) officially resigned from Congress Tuesday, telling a local newspaper that she is "very excited" to begin her next job as CEO of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association. In an interview with the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the former member of Congress said she was bothered by criticism of her departure, which came only a few months after she was re-elected to her seat.

Former Nebraska Sen. Ben Nelson to head NAIC

Retired lawmaker has years of industry experience and is former EVP of National Association of Insurance Commissioners Former Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.), who retired in December, is the new CEO of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners. He replaces acting CEO Andrew Beal, who took the reins in November when former NAIC chief Therese Vaughan left. Beal now returns to his positions as COO and chief legal counsel at NAIC.
