Independent Sector co-founder and president has died
Brian OConnell, co-founder and president of Independent Sector and a longtime association CEO, died March 21 of complications from cancer. He was 81. OConnell was national director of the National Mental Health Association for 12 years. After that, he became president of the National Council on Philanthropy, and then executive director of the Coalition of National Voluntary Organizations.

Courson to leave Mortgage Bankers Association
John Courson, president and CEO of the Mortgage Bankers Association for two tumultuous years, will step down June 1. David Stevens, assistant secretary for housing and commissioner of the Federal Housing Administration, will replace him. MBA Chairman Michael Berman noted the tough times for the mortgage industry that prevailed preceding and during Coursons tenurea period that saw the group forced to sell its headquarters building at 1331 L Street NW, Washington, D.C.
