Government Relations The Telecommunications Industry Association named Patrick Sullivan director of technical and government affairs. In his new position, he is charged with overseeing public safety and technical regulatory issues. Previously, he served as counsel for wireless provider Kajeet Inc. and practiced law as a litigation associate at Wilkie Farr & Gallagher LLP. Sullivan replaces Patrick Donovan.

Two groups promoting coal in the deliberations of efficient energy realigned mid-April, seeking to end duplication of their efforts to promote the fuel as a clean and affordable alternative. The Center for Energy and Economic Development (CEED), reabsorbed their grassroots offshoot, Americans for Balanced Energy Choices (ABEC) to form the newly named American Coalition for Clean CoalElectricity (ACCCE).

A pattern of questionable behavior among senior executives at the Smithsonian Institute has some officials and nonprofit experts asking if a lax ethical culture has developed across the museum system. On April 23, a U.S. District judge dismissed charges against Smithsonian Business Ventures Vice President Jeanny Kim who was accused of assaulting a museum custodian trying to prevent the museum official from entering without proper access cards.

Tenny left the American Forest & Paper Association to be CEO of the new National Alliance of Forest Owners, a group that formed April 10 to represent private timber companies in local and federal policy debate. NAFO is a 501(c)(6) association with a chapter structure and begins with 14 members from states including New Hampshire, Washington, Massachusetts and Oregon.
