CEO DATELINE - Veterinary group offers health plans once again

The American Veterinary Medical Association and its insurance arm, AVMA LIFE, have announced they are again offering an employer-based association health insurance program for AVMA members. Enrollment began July 1, and policies can take effect starting Sept. 1. To sign up, members must do business primarily in one of nine eligible states where the plans are available for now: Arizona, Georgia, Indiana, Illinois, Montana, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas or West Virginia. Plans are afoot to expand coverage to more states.

CEO DATELINE - Labor Department says no overtime for trade group paralegals

An unnamed trade association doesn't have to pay its paralegals overtime because they are already highly paid and are administrative workers, the Department of Labor says in an opinion letter. These two factors would make them "exempt" from receiving overtime pay under the Fair Labor Standards Act, in the agency's terminology. Want more news?

EVP Susan Robertson has been named interim president and CEO Graham John Graham, 16-year CEO of ASAE, has been diagnosed with cancer and has stepped back from day-to-day management of the group. The type of cancer has not been disclosed.

CEO DATELINE - SOCMA, science teachers announce name changes

The Society of Chemical Manufacturers and Affiliates and the National Science Teachers Association both unveiled brand changes this week that retain their familiar names, but with a few tweaks. SOCMA shorted its name to its acronym only and added a tagline, with the new brand now SOCMA: Solutions for Specialties. NSTA swapped "teachers" with "teaching" so the association is now the National Science Teaching Association. Both groups are based in Arlington, Va.
