The Newspaper Association of America filed its initial brief Feb. 11 in a lawsuit seeking to overturn what the group calls a "sweetheart deal" between the U.S. Postal Service and a distributor of direct mail. The negotiated service agreement, or NSA, reached last year with Valassis Direct Mail gives the distributor discounted postal rates. Newspapers compete with direct mail for advertising, so NAA views the deal as giving a competitor an unfair advantage and has sued the Postal Regulatory Commission.

Telecom groups join forces to settle trade show dispute Two associations representing cell phone service providers have made peace in a dispute that started after one group scheduled its trade show at the same time and place as the other's. CTIA-The Wireless Association and the Competitive Carriers Association announced Thursday that attendees at one show can purchase passes to allow them access to the other. In addition, complimentary shuttle service will be provided between the two shows.
