Read MoreThe Newspaper Association of America filed its initial brief Feb. 11 in a lawsuit seeking to overturn what the group calls a "sweetheart deal" between the U.S. Postal Service and a distributor of direct mail. The negotiated service agreement, or NSA, reached last year with Valassis Direct Mail gives the distributor discounted postal rates. Newspapers compete with direct mail for advertising, so NAA views the deal as giving a competitor an unfair advantage and has sued the Postal Regulatory Commission.
