Boards weigh CEO pay in light of private sector abuses
Scrutiny over pay and performance bonuses in the private sector is crossing over to associations, as more boards approve cost-cutting measures and take a closer look at how they compensate leaders in industry groups.

Determining pay for executives at some associations isnt as easy as referencing Part V-A of the tax Form 990, where most associations list executive compensation. Thats because, according to a CEO Update review of recent 990 forms from 500 associations, 6 percent of groups list additional executive salary in a related organizations attachment near the end of the sometimes 30-page document.

This years CEO compensation survey is the biggest one ever tackled by CEO Update, with more than 500 organizations included, yet the formula for selection was simple. First, to qualify, a CEO had to lead a national association representing an industry (trade group) or representing individuals in a profession (professional society).
