Charity CEOs’ average compensation nears $150,000

Leaders of nonprofits in the Northeast, and of largest groups, tend to earn higher salaries, according to the Charity Navigator study. The top executives of U.S. charitable nonprofits received a meager average raise of 2.55 percent since last year, earning an average salary of $148,972, according to Charity Navigator’s CEO Compensation Study released Aug. 1.

IRS releases long-awaited final instructions for its Form 990

The Internal Revenue Service is preparing to release the final instructions to the redesigned IRS Form 990, bringing to a close more than a year-long effort to update the nearly 30-year-old form. Nonprofits and associations must begin using the new form in 2009 to report on their 2008 tax year and they will be reporting more information than ever, according to the IRS, to “increase transparency, promote tax compliance, and minimize burden.”
