Ailing travel industries welcome bill creating nonprofit

Tourism and travel industries scored a victory Sept. 9 with Senate passage of the Travel Promotion Act, legislation which, if approved by the House and signed by the president, will create the Corporation for Travel Promotion, a nonprofit group to market the United States as an overseas travel destination. Funding for the CTP will come from a $10 fee assessed by the Department of Homeland Security to travelers entering the U.S. from 35 “visa waiver countries”—nations whose citizens currently pay no fee to enter, said Joe McInerney, president and CEO of the American Hotel & Lodging Association.
