The Aluminum Association has named former staffer Chuck Johnson as its next CEO—an announcement coming only a month after the Arlington, Va.-based group said then-CEO Tom Dobbins would step down.

Johnson currently is president of the International Safety Equipment Association, a position he has held for four years. He previously spent 19 years at The Aluminum Association in roles of increasing responsibility, leaving in 2017 when he was vice president of policy. He begins his new role Jan. 3.

"Aluminum has enormous opportunities and challenges in areas like global trade, recycling, climate and supply chain issues, and I look forward to working with the association's leadership and staff on moving the industry forward," Johnson said in a statement.

In a separate statement, ISEA said its executive committee is planning to engage an interim CEO and undertake an executive search for Johnson's successor. The organization is also based in Arlington.

Dobbins had been at The Aluminum Association for less than two years when the organization announced his departure in late September, just days before its annual member meeting. The group did not give a reason for his exit.

The Aluminum Association reported $8 million in revenue in its 2019 tax filings, the most recent available. ISEA reported revenue of $2 million in 2019.
