Ask the Recruiter: Experts differ on whether reader should remain in job

Question: I am currently employed but the position here is changing and I am being provided the opportunity to search over a limited time frame. One time frame has me being compensated through May (if I don’t find employment) but I must leave the office and officially end my employment at the end of February. The other option has me compensated through the end of April, but in this case I will leave at the end of March.
