The Advanced Medical Technology Association will run social media ads in 15 states urging lawmakers to repeal a tax on medical devices, industry news site MassDevice reported Thursday.
Federal lawmakers created the 2.3 percent tax on medical devices with the passage of the Affordable Care Act in 2013. AdvaMed has lobbied to eliminate the tax, but the recent failure by Republicans to repeal and replace the Obama-era healthcare law has seemingly halted that effort for the time being.
AdvaMed plans to keep up the pressure with a new social media ad campaign that will run from Aug. 15 through Labor Day. The goal is to influence members of Congress in California, Indiana, Massachusetts and 12 other states.
"It's time to put innovation first," AdvaMed CEO Scott Whitaker said in a statement. "Thousands of companies face a massive, billion-dollar tax increase in a matter of months. We know full repeal can make it across the finish line and become law, so it's time to do something about that when Congress returns." http://bit.ly/2uNjYS3
AdvaMed is not the only group seeking repeal of the tax. Thirty-six conservative advocacy groups and activists sent a letter to congressional leaders Thursday urging them to "stop new Obamacare taxes," including the device tax. http://bit.ly/2uxhfgk
