A coalition of agriculture industry associations has released a new television ad warning that Chinese retaliation for President Donald Trump's tariff decision could fall hardest on U.S. farmers.
The new ad by Farmers for Free Trade features U.S. farmers appealing to Trump to reverse his decision to impose tariffs on certain imports, particularly on goods from China. The Chinese government responded Monday by announcing new tariffs on 128 U.S. goods, including pork and fruit products.
"Retaliation that reduces demand and prices for our crops will further harm farmers and rural communities that depend on exports," said John Heisdorffer, board president of the American Soybean Association, which is a member of the coalition.
The National Association of Wheat Growers, National Corn Growers Association, CropLife America, National Pork Producers Council and American Farm Bureau Federation are also members of the coalition.
The ad will run in the Washington, D.C., and Florida markets on cable news channels, including MSNBC, CNN and Fox News.
