Airlines for America has launched an online dashboard showing real-time flight data for the 30 busiest U.S. airports, giving the public a glimpse of how weather and other factors affect flight cancellations.
The web tool was developed by A4A and Global Eagle Entertainment, a California company that provides digital and entertainment services to the airline industry. It compiles aggregate data to show how many flights are operating on time at each of the 30 airports as well as cancellations. Data about individual flights is not available.
"Weather conditions can change quickly and have a significant impact on U.S. airlines and the 2.2 million passengers they serve every day across the globe," said John Heimlich, vice president and chief economist for A4A. "Airline passengers, airlines and airports now have the most reliable and current information about how potential weather disruptions are impacting travel at a specific airport or across an entire region of the country."
