An association representing online publishers wants the National Rifle Association to tone down its rhetoric about journalists out of fear such statements could incite violence against reporters.
In a Sept. 5 letter to NRA spokeswoman Dana Loesch, Digital Context Next said her recent comments to the media that "we're coming for you" could be interpreted as a direct threat against journalists and a call for violence. The gun advocacy group has stepped up its criticism of the media in recent months, partly in defense of President Donald Trump.
"Ninety-nine people out of a hundred would interpret this language as threatening and to suggest otherwise is disingenuous at best and dangerous at worst," said Chris Pedigo, DCN's senior vice president of government affairs. "Bottom line: It is un-American to threaten journalists."
Pedigo invited Loesch to attend an upcoming DCN seminar in Washington, D.C., about press freedom. http://bit.ly/2xP9bJO
Loesch didn't respond to media requests for comments but in a series of tweets shrugged off allegations that her remarks were "un-American."
