Instagram has been a boon for the fashion industry, as well as one of its most high-profile associations. The Council of Fashion Designers of America honored the photo-sharing service at its annual awards gala Monday night in New York City. It is the first app to win the CFDA's media award.
Appropriately enough, Kim "Break the Internet" Kardashian presented the award to Kevin Systrom, who co-founded Instagram in 2010. Kardashian has 35 million followers on Instagram.
CFDA has 277,000 Instagram followers, a huge number for the association world. In April, the council released its latest book—"Designers on Instagram: #Fashion" —showcasing some of the best Instagram photos from its members.
The CFDA board voted on the award, and CEO Steven Kolb said Instagram had the support of some of the industry's most influential voices, as reported by fashion critic Robin Givhan in The Washington Post. http://wapo.st/1M87WpQ
