Oil lobby to air Super Bowl commercial The American Petroleum Institute will spend $100,000 for a 30-second television ad that will air during Sunday's Super Bowl, although only in Washington, D.C., market. The Sunlight Foundation, a nonprofit government watchdog group, obtained a contract between API and local NBC affiliate WRC for the spot scheduled to run the during the halftime show. The foundation noted the ad represented the single biggest buy in a recent advertising campaign by API to tout what it says would be the economic benefits of the Keystone XL pipeline.
