Three associations announced Thursday they will offer a total of $20,000 in grants to help three schools establish healthy snack programs.
The U.S. Apple Association, School Nutrition Association and National Association of State Departments of Agriculture are requesting entries for the Apple4Ed program, which will reward a $10,000 grant and two $5,000 grants to school campuses seeking to launch healthy snack initiatives.
"Equipping kids with what they need to be successful in the classroom starts first with nutrition, and not only at the breakfast, lunch and dinner table," USApple CEO Jim Bair said.
Students, food service directors, physical education teachers are encouraged to submit healthy snacking ideas by completing a short form found on the Apples4Ed.com site before Nov. 30. Schools with students enrolled from kindergarten through 12th grade will be eligible and considered for the grant.
Checks will be presented to the schools in person, in January and February 2018. http://bit.ly/2ytHkC4
