The Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers is urging President-elect Donald Trump to put the brakes on an Obama administration plan to require better fuel efficiency from automobiles, Reuters news agency reported.
In an eight-page letter to Trump's transition team, the Auto Alliance said its members wish to "harmonize and adjust" the rules, which set targets to cutting greenhouse gas emissions from vehicles by 2025. The group also wants the incoming Trump administration to review all regulations and actions taken since Sept. 1, including new guidance on self-driving vehicles.
Automakers previously backed rules to double fuel efficiency standards by 2025, but only if a "mid-term review" took place.
The group is likely to find a friendly ear in Trump. The candidate has not only denied the science behind global warming, he has called for the elimination of many environmental regulations. He has also called for eliminating the Environmental Protection Agency. http://reut.rs/2g2S0Pq
