The National Council for Behavioral Health has renamed itself the National Council for Mental Wellbeing. The name change, announced earlier this month, came about "in response to changes in the mental health and substance use treatment fields and the need to more accurately define the work of its nearly 3,500 member organizations," the group said in a statement.

The new name is the result of months of discussion among the council's board, members, staff and consultants.
"By changing our name, we are changing the conversation," CEO Chuck Ingoglia said. "Not only is the National Council for Mental Wellbeing inclusive of mental health and substance use, our new name boldly states our goal—to make mental wellbeing a reality for everyone."
Ingoglia added the rebranding "presents an opportunity to align our name with our goal of promoting mental health, recovery from substance use challenges and equitable access to high-quality care."
