IAAPA Expo, the giant attractions-industry gathering in Orlando, Fla., has been canceled for 2020, the latest event to fall victim to COVID-19.
Last year, the IAAPA Expo attracted 42,000 attendees from more than 100 countries to the Orange County Convention Center, where the event is held annually, the Orlando Sentinel reported.
"The continuing barriers to international and domestic travel coupled with the evolving guidance on mass gatherings, and members' need to focus on their businesses helped lead to this decision," said International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions CEO Hal McEvoy said in a Sept. 4 press release announcing the cancellation.
IAAPA will hold a virtual education conference Nov. 16-18 during the same week the show would have been held. The association, which is based in Orlando, plans to host IAAPA Expo 2021 there.
