Cruise Lines International Association said June 5 its members must immediately "eliminate all Cuba destinations from itineraries" that they had previously scheduled, due to new U.S. government regulations.
The previous day, the Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control said it was removing "authorization for group people-to-people educational travel" in accordance with the Trump administration's policy of imposing renewed sanctions on the country. This led to widespread reports of altered itineraries and upset travelers, reported the Orlando Sentinel (https://bit.ly/2Iobrh8).
"This affects nearly 800,000 passenger bookings that are currently scheduled or already underway," the trade group noted, saying that the new restrictions "effectively make it illegal to cruise to Cuba from the United States" and that it was sorry for passengers due to a situation that "is completely beyond our control."
