The new video ad by the COVID RELIEF NOW Coalition highlights the need for additional tax dollars , "noting the widespread business closures, layoffs, and precipitous decline in state and local revenues facing the American economy," according to a statement from the group. It comes as Republicans and Democrats are reportedly at an impasse in relief talks.
"Millions of jobs and the livelihoods of people who have built their small business for decades are just withering away because our leaders in Washington are prioritizing politics over people," said Chip Rogers, CEO of the American Hotel & Lodging Association, a founding member of the COVID RELIEF NOW Coalition.
"America's hotel industry is on the brink of collapse. We can't afford to let thousands of small businesses die and all of the jobs associated with them be lost for many years."
Other coalition members include associations whose industries have taken the brunt of the economic damage unleashed by the pandemic, including the Asian American Hotel Owners Association, International Council of Shopping Centers, International Franchise Association, National Restaurant Association, National Retail Federation and U.S. Travel Association. Multiple groups representing state and municipal governments also are coalition members, with local governments facing huge tax revenue shortfalls.
