Communications and technology industry association COMPTEL has rebranded as INCOMPAS, a title the organization said reflects its "growth and commitment to defending competition policy across a wide spectrum of evolving technology platforms."
The new name is not the only change for INCOMPAS. The association announced it is also expanding membership beyond the Internet service providers it represented in the past. The group's membership is now open to video providers, social media leaders, content providers, wireless companies and venture capitalists, among others.
"We have a rich history, successfully leading efforts to open markets to new networks, new technology and new ideas," INCOMPAS CEO Chip Pickering said. "Moving forward, we wanted a name that reflected both our values and our growing membership."
In the last 18 months, INCOMPAS has added several new high-profile members, including Google, Netflix and T-Mobile. The group also said it has been at the forefront of several policy battles concerning technology, from efforts to enact net neutrality measures to defeating the now-defunct Comcast-Time Warner Cable merger. www.incompas.org
