The last vestige of tech industry association TechAmerica disappeared Monday with CompTIA announcing it was rebranding its public policy division to bring it in line with the rest of the organization.
TechAmerica had been an independent but financially struggling association up until 2014, when CompTIA acquired the trade group and 24 of its staff. TechAmerica became the public policy arm of CompTIA, keeping its name after the acquisition.
CompTIA now says it is dropping the TechAmerica brand and rolling all policy divisions under the CompTIA name.
"This approach leverages all of the strengths of CompTIA—in education and credentialing, advocacy and philanthropy," CompTIA CEO Todd Thibodeaux said. "To highlight all that CompTIA does for its members and the industry, it makes sense to align under a single, recognizable brand."
Earlier this year, CompTIA announced it had sold the CompTIA Foundation to the Professional Services Council. Under the deal, PSC took ownership of the foundation and its various programs, including Vision Forecast and Conference, Defense Strategic Planning Forum, the annual CIO survey and the American Technology Awards.
