More than 30 businesses and associations have joined a Consumer Technology Association working group that will examine the impacts of artificial intelligence on health care and develop best practices about how to apply the technology, the association announced Thursday.
The working group will act as a platform for stakeholders across the tech and health care industries to create common terminology and best practices for management and oversight of data, CTA said in a statement. Its members will closely examine topics in the field of AI such as trustworthiness, ethics and bias.
"AI will boost our wellness and health care by improving outcomes, expanding treatment options and providing cost-cutting efficiencies," CTA CEO Gary Shapiro said. "We must seize the opportunity to realize the potential of AI ethically, strategically and with clear goals."
Rapid progress in AI presents "great opportunities" but also challenges that must be addressed, said Rene Quashie, vice president, policy and regulatory affairs, digital health, at CTA. "This unique working group represents a diverse set of stakeholders across the ecosystem, including clinicians, manufacturers, regulators, public policy and civil rights organizations. The work produced will provide an informed framework for the use of AI in the context of health care."
The Advanced Medical Technology Association and American Telemedicine Association are among the group's members. http://tinyurl.com/y3vc98sm
