The Consumer Technology Association and 42 of its member companies have pledged to add more than 392,214 U.S. worker-training opportunities in the next five years as part of a White House initiative to spur job training.
CTA CEO Gary Shapiro signed President Donald Trump's Pledge to American Workers during a White House meeting May 1. The pledge is aimed at helping U.S. companies fill open positions by training workers with specific skill sets.
"We should always prioritize investment in our greatest asset, the American worker, and ensure that our workforce remains the greatest in the world," Ivanka Trump, advisor to the President, said in a statement. "We thank CTA and all of the members who are taking that step today by signing the White House Pledge to the American Worker."
Shapiro said there are currently 500,000 open jobs in the high-tech sector but not enough workers with the skills needed to fill those positions.
"If we want to maintain our nation's global leadership as a tech innovator and keep these jobs in America, we must help our workers develop the skills to succeed throughout their careers," he said in a statement.
CTA is not the first association to sign the pledge. Others include the American Association of Community Colleges, National Association of Manufacturers and Aerospace Industries Association. http://bit.ly/2vy7Hnt
