Temperatures will hover near 90 or higher all week, but the International Dairy Foods Association will try to cool things off with the 33rd annual Capitol Hill Ice Cream Party. The trade group expects to serve 2,000 gallons of ice cream and frozen yogurt, 6,000 root beer floats and 44 cases of sundae toppings. The Thursday event in Upper Senate Park is a popular tradition for many lawmakers, staff and their families. IDFA members will be visiting congressional offices Wednesday and Thursday.
More than 40 families who have children with "medical complexity" will participate in the annual Speak Now for Kids Family Advocacy Day, sponsored by the Children's Hospital Association. The families plan to ask lawmakers to improve Medicaid for children who need a lot of very specialized care. As part of the event, photos of child patients will be on display today and Tuesday in the foyer of the Rayburn House Office Building, and June 22-26 in the rotunda of the Russell Senate Office Building.
The Council for Responsible Nutrition is bringing about 60 executives in the dietary supplement and functional food industry to Washington; CRN's 12th annual fly-in is Wednesday. Talking points include "reasonable regulation" to help eliminate illegal products marketed as dietary supplements, and more funding for the Food and Drug Administration.
Other fly-ins this week include the Manufactured Housing Institute, American Health Care Association/National Center for Assisted Living, Tree Care Industry Association, Ambulatory Surgery Center Association and the Competitive Carriers Association.
