The National Shooting Sports Foundation will not get to run advertisements on Washington, D.C.-area buses and subways after the transit system's governing body said the ads would violate its guidelines, the Washington Free Beacon reported Wednesday.
The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority ruled that NSSF's ads touting the firearms industry's commitment "to make communities safer" ran afoul of its guidelines but did not elaborate on the reasons why, according to the newspaper. Larry Keane, NSSF's senior vice president for government and public affairs, decried the decision as politically motivated.
"There's nothing controversial in the ad," he said. "So, it's just another blatant example of bias against the firearms industry."
The Free Beacon noted the transit agency has rejected other message ads in the past, such as an American Civil Liberties Union ad featuring the First Amendment and a picture of a Christmas scene by the Catholic Archdiocese of Washington. http://bit.ly/387A79w
