At least a dozen associations are bringing members to Washington, D.C., this week for meetings on Capitol Hill and more.
The International Association of Exhibitions and Events holds the second annual Exhibitions Day Tuesday. The agenda includes making it easier for more international travelers to visit the U.S., and for more government employees to attend events and trade shows. Other meeting-related organizations are collaborating on Exhibitions Day. IAEE launched the "Exhibitions Means Business" campaign in 2011.
Hundreds of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and students will attend the 21st annual Compounders on the Hill fly-in. Top of the agenda for congressional visits Tuesday is pushing for changes to the Drug Quality and Security Act of 2013. The International Academy of Compounding Pharmacists contends the law is confusing and has had many unintended consequences.
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce holds its annual America's Small Business Summit, with Hill Day on Wednesday. The Chamber is seeking volunteers for its new grassroots initiative, the Main Street Ambassadors Program. Ambassadors will build relationships with their legislators before and after the summit.
Several groups in the alcoholic beverage sector will converge on Capitol Hill, including Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of America and American Beverage Licensees. Trade groups representing all aspects of making and selling beer, wine and spirits are coming together for a celebration Wednesday evening at the National Archives Museum. The museum's "Spirited Republic" exhibit on the history of alcohol in America runs until January 2016.
Other groups holding fly-ins or legislative events this week include American Agri-Women, United Spinal Association, National Propane Gas Association, Security Industry Association, National Limousine Association, Alliance for Regenerative Medicine, National Association of Surety Bond Producers, American Association for Colleges for Teacher Education, TechServe Alliance and Renal Physicians Association.
